UC Students Seek to Restore Playground Lost when 2011 Tsunami Struck Japan

Hi everyone! We just wanted to share this short video that was made by the students at University of Cincinnati DAAP (College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning) who are working hard on the designs for a new playground in Ishinomaki, Japan.

Just letting everyone know that Emiko, Miya, and I will be flying to Tokyo, Japan (along with other family members) on Tuesday, April 17. We’ll be there through April 26. From there, we are going to Ishinomaki to personally see the damage from the tsunami. I will be taking a lot of photos and writing about our trip here. In addition, we’re in the process of trying to rebuild a playground there. We will be meeting with officials there to discuss plans for rebuilding.

DAAP (the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning at the University of Cincinnati) is interested in helping with the design and is intending to create a class project for their fall curriculum.

We can fill you in on the details later. We’ll try to post updates as much as possible depending on available internet access.
